During a migration assessment, a company discovers an old internal application that no one has used in over a year and decides to simply decommission it rather than migrate it to the cloud at all. What migration strategy does this describe?
About the AZ-900 exam
Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900) validates a foundational understanding of cloud concepts and how they're implemented specifically in Azure: core services, pricing and support, and the governance and compliance tools available. It assumes no prior technical background.
Like AWS Cloud Practitioner, it's a breadth exam rather than a hands-on one — questions are mostly recall and light scenario-matching. That makes it the fastest Microsoft credential to prepare for properly, and a common first stop before the more technical AZ-104.

- Approximately 99 USD; Microsoft prices the exam by the country in which it is proctored.
- Scoring

Who it's for
- People in non-technical roles — sales, support, project management — whose employer wants a baseline Azure credential on the team
- Career-changers using it as a first, low-risk step before AZ-104 or another Azure role-based certification
- AWS- or GCP-familiar engineers who want to quickly establish Azure vocabulary and service-naming conventions
How to prepare
- Weight your time by the published ranges: Describe Azure Architecture and Services is the largest share at 35–40%, with Management and Governance close behind at 30–35%.
- Know the core service categories by name and purpose: Virtual Machines, App Service, Azure Functions, Storage Accounts, Azure SQL Database, Cosmos DB, Virtual Network.
- Be able to state the cloud service models (IaaS/PaaS/SaaS) and deployment models (public/private/hybrid) and which Azure offerings sit in each.
- Learn the pricing and support basics by name — the Pricing Calculator, Cost Management, Azure Advisor, and the support plan tiers — since 'which tool would you use' questions come up often.
