What 220-1101 was
220-1101 was the Core 1 exam of the CompTIA A+ V14 series (launched April 2022), covering mobile devices, networking, hardware, virtualization and cloud computing, and hardware and network troubleshooting.
What changed in 220-1201
- The same five domains, re-weighted: Mobile Devices 13%, Networking 23%, Hardware 25%, Virtualization and Cloud Computing 11%, Hardware and Network Troubleshooting 28%.
- New topics include eSIM, mobile device management policy, the 6 GHz Wi-Fi band, newer display technology, and containers and hypervisor types.
- Some older hardware topics, such as legacy cable types, were dropped.
If you passed 220-1101
Both A+ exams must come from the same series. If you passed 220-1101 but not 220-1102 before the V14 series retired, that pass can't be paired with a V15 exam: you need both 220-1201 and 220-1202. A full A+ certification earned on V14 stays valid for three years from the day you earned it.
